Be sure your marketing follows these best practices

You’ve got to be careful when marketing compounded preparations — there are a lot of laws and regulations in play that you need to keep track of. That’s why APC has released Best Practices for Marketing Compounded Medications, a guide to the best practices for marketing.

Some of the advice is (or should be) obvious, such as not making any false or misleading claims. Other best practices may serve as a reminder: “Be Aware of ‘Deceptive Trade Practices’ Regulations,” for example.

And then there’s what may come as a surprise to some: “Avoid Marketing Based on Price.” Remember, as the FDA puts it, “Other factors, such as a lower price, are not sufficient to establish that the compounded drug product is not essentially a copy of the commercially available drug product.”
