Musical chairs

Did you ever play musical chairs as a kid? You know, where the music plays and you all march around a group of chairs but there’s one less chair than the number of marching children, and you know that the music will stop suddenly, there’ll be a mad scramble for chairs, and someone is gonna be left standing?

Well, this coming week will be like musical chairs at APC, except there’ll be seats enough for us all. My last day as your Board Chair is this Wednesday, January 31. That’s when the music stops, so to speak.

On Thursday I join the APC staff as your chief advocacy officer. That same day, my friend Joe Navarra of Woodbury, NY, will become APC board chair and my also-friend Michelle Moser of Mount Vernon, Wash., will become chair-elect. Like I said, seats for us all.

I’ve been part of APC for quite a few years and via my volunteer roles, I’ve fallen in love with our alliance. I believe deeply that APC’s work makes a difference for your patients and your compounding practice. I can’t say that I foresaw ever joining the staff, but the opportunity – in the form of funding by the board and an invitation from CEO Scott Brunner – has come along at the right time.

I’m excited about what’s ahead – including focusing entire days on working to elevate our profession, rather than squeezing it in amid my former pharmacy role.

As APC’s advocacy work goes, our scope is broadening and our depth is expanding. We’ll be building and strengthening our relationships with FDA, USP, state boards of pharmacy, and other stakeholders. I’m eager to join a staff team that works day-in and day-out to protect our reputation as compounding professionals.

My time as a board member and an Executive Committee member has been rewarding. Thank you to the entire Board of Directors for allowing me to be your partner and colleague.

One song is ending, and I’m grabbing a new chair. I can’t wait to get to work for you.
