Congrats to Stacy! Texas Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Stacy Hightower to the state’s board of pharmacy. Name sound familiar? She works at Las Colinas Pharmacy in Irving, and she’s also a member of the APC Board of Directors. Great to have her on the Texas board!
Compounding bill hits the news. FDA Law Blog is one of the first to cover the introduction of H.R. 5316, the “Drug Shortage Compounding Patient Access Act”. If for some reason you haven’t been following, the bill would help ensure compounding pharmacies and facilities could provide patients with the drugs they need during shortages, and, as authors Karla Palmer and Charles Snow put it, “Get Rid of Section 503A’s Tortured MOU Provision.” (A huge thanks to our friends Reps. Diana Harshbarger and Buddy Carter for introducing it!)
HRT could lose Black Box warning. Could the infamous (and, we now know, unfounded) Black Box warning on menopause hormone replacement therapy be going away? We wouldn’t ask if the answer wasn’t “Maybe.” FDA Commissioner Martin Makary told CNN that the warning was “maybe one of the greatest screw-ups of modern medicine,” and that there were serious discussions at the agency about changing it, but couldn’t give any details … yet.
Our regional meeting wasn’t just OK! More than 50 compounding pros came to our regional meeting in Oklahoma City on Tuesday for a blast of an evening with cocktails, dinner, networking, CE, and more. A big thanks to ARL Bio Pharma and Kalchem for sponsoring it!
