Our Compounding Defense Initiative at work
It’s only been about a month since, with the Outsourcing Facilities Association, we launched the Compounding Defense Initiative to fight bad bills being introduced in states across the country, and we’ve already had some victories. (See “So what’s happening in the states?” below.) You can also keep track of the current state threats at (and direct your patients and providers to) compounding.com/threatresponse.
The initiative works because of the people who have volunteered their time and expertise (and money!) to make it work — to choose the battles, allocate the resources, and follow through as we tackle one battle after another. These folks (and OFA) deserve the credit … and your thanks.
The CDI Executive Committee
Critical to the initiative’s success is coordination. We need a national strategy if we’re going to counter the drugmaker-funded legislation that threatens lawful pharmacy compounding. That’s where the executive committee comes in, setting that strategy, directing advocacy operatives and counsel, making sure we all stay on message, and when necessary approving rapid response actions. These seven people are the command center.

The Steering Committee
These are the people who think strategy — they’re the ones advising the initiative, providing real-world insight, and state-level intelligence to inform the executive committee’s decisions, while bringing an extra dose of industry credibility. Strategy, messaging, coalition building, and negotiation boundaries … they do that in the background while APC handles the public-facing side on the advocacy and media fronts.
