APC briefs House GOP Docs
APC was invited to address the House GOP Doctors Caucus — the first time we’ve ever had such an invite. (Thank you, Rep. Harshbarger!) We say “address,” but it was a more informal gathering around a conference table — and that was even better. It was an excellent opportunity for us to share some critical information about the compounding landscape. We opened by briefing the caucus on the legal and regulatory framework under which pharmacy compounding operates — something not all the members were familiar with. And we were clear to point out that, despite the misinformation they may be familiar with, compounding complements commercially available drugs, it doesn’t compete with them. (In fact, a prescriber who addressed the caucus explained how often he preferred compounded formulations for his patients.) The members asked a lot of questions, focused less on GLP-1s and more on APIs and how compounders source them — specifically, our nation's overreliance on use of offshore manufacturers. And when we answered, they listened. We couldn’t have asked for a better audience, nor a better way to inform some of the most influential people in the federal government. |
