Webinar on new California regs is next week. If you dispense to California patients, you won’t want to miss a three-part free webinar series, “California Compliance,” from our friends at LP3, covering the state’s new (and tweaked) regulations, especially the requirements for compounding pharmacies operating or dispensing in the state. Important stuff, and the first session is Oct. 28.
Vet compounders, assemble! Have you ever provided pharmacy services for animals? Please tell us about it! Back in the Long Long Ago, about 77% of practicing pharmacists provided pharmacy care for non-human patients. Has that changed? A partnership representing veterinary compounding pharmacists is petitioning to have veterinary pharmacy recognized by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties, so it’s repeating those older studies. Whether you’re retired or still practicing, please take 5–10 minutes to fill out a short survey by Oct. 31 to help measure the scope of veterinary pharmacy practice in the U.S. (Of course all the responses are confidential.)
Stretch them shoulders! Feeling a little stressed? Stretch your back! You know, flex your shoulders, stretch them out, do a little shake — University of Minnesota researchers did a small study and they think that “stretching the upper back muscles triggers a reflex through the parasympathetic nervous system,” and that lowers blood pressure and helps you feel relaxed. (And we’re willing to bet that at least half of you just tried it. Good for you!)
Does your state association want free money? The Pharmacy Compounding Foundation’s annual education grant application is now open for 2026 state association meetings! Click here for a PDF with the deets, then urge your state pharmacy association to apply by clicking here. Tell them not to wait — the deadline to apply is Nov. 7 at 8:00 pm EST.
SC is looking for a few good compounders. If you’re in South Carolina, you might be interested in applying for the new Compounding Advisory Panel from the SCBoP. It will “advise the board on regulatory considerations in specific practice areas related to pharmaceutical compounding,” and the nine members serve for a year. More information is available from the BoP.
A GLP-1 plateau? Axios has an interesting report: It seems that GLP-1 prescribing “shows signs of leveling off,” according to a new study from Truveta. The Axios folks speculate that price might be a major factor — cost, insurance coverage (and thus the ability to stay on the drugs) might be tempering demand.
Study: Spa oversight is limited. A new study out of Yale looked at how states oversaw and regulated IV hydration spas, as well as what kinds of products those spas provided, what claims they made, and how they were staffed. What it found was that not only did spa offerings (and staff) vary widely, but so did state oversight. In fact, only four states had specific policies addressing hydration-spa practices, although 32 had guidance for those spas. The authors’ conclusion: “more stringent oversight may be necessary to protect public health.”
