Short Takes: July 10, 2026

Who’da thunk it? The same Chinese companies that make fentanyl precursors have found a new business: peptides. (At least they’re labeled as peptides. If you’re paying for something in a plain brown wrapper from China, you’re rolling the dice.) As Axios reports, these labs are pumping peptides into US markets to meet the demand — demand being met via the gray and black markets. We can do better.

In DC? Take a different kind of tour. The National Mall isn’t very busy these days, so it’s a great time to check out the American Pharmacists Association headquarters. Why? The building is both gorgeous and historic, and APhA has opened it to the public for guided tours beginning July 17. Fun fact: The building is the only privately owned structure on the National Mall. The more you know.

The latest look at GLP-1s. The good folks at Gallup just released the results of a poll on Americans’ use of GLP-1 agonists. Amongst the findings (besides the fact that usage has gone from about 3% in 2024 to 11% today) is that people taking compounded versions tend to be a bit happier with the results, and find them to be more effective, than patients taking the brand-name versions. It was interesting enough that the New York Times wrote a piece about it — check that out.

(Still) seeking a pharmacist with a passion for advocacy. Reminder: If you’re a pharmacist and want something different, APC is hiring a state regulatory affairs director (remote, WFH). Here’s the position announcement with all the details; the deadline to apply is Friday, July 17. Tell your friends and relations! Questions? Drop a note to info@a4pc.org.
