Accentuating the negative. A new report from NABP found (mostly) broad compliance with the organization’s standards by compounding pharmacies. Unfortunately, we were disappointed that Pharmacy Practice News decided to lead its story by focusing on the report’s handful of negative findings. PPN, it seemed, was more interested in the titillation factor than the fact that yes, the vast majority of pharmacies are in compliance with NABP’s Verified Pharmacy Program. Sadly, you need to get to paragraph 16 (!) for the actual news: “The overall picture is not one of widespread noncompliance; most pharmacies inspected voluntarily by NABP scored well (emphasis ours).” But that doesn’t make as good a headline, does it?

Singing for the "unsung heroes". APC Chief Advocacy Officer Tenille Davis was a guest on Radio Health Journal — a radio magazine that "focuses on the latest news in health, science, technology, and public policy." Her topic: Why compounding pharmacies are “The Unsung Heroes Of Healthcare” where she, along with Dr. James Watson, an emergency physician and medical toxicologist, explained how compounding works, what regulations apply, and why patients rely on compounded medications. Check it out!
