Fat cats to make drugs for fat cats? Like most people, you’ve probably thought, “Why hasn’t someone come up with weight-loss drugs for cats? Fear not — Okava Pharmaceuticals is on the case, planning to enroll 50 cats in a study of its GLP-1 drug, exenatide. No worries about giving Mittens a shot every week: This is a miniature implant that delivers the drug continuously for up to six months.

Stopping FDA’s “revolving door.” Too many FDA officials are leaving the agency only to take jobs with the very companies they were supposed to have been regulating. This erodes what little trust remains in the agency, argue Lee Rosebush (chairman of the Outsourcing Facilities Association) and Marc Wagner (a pharmacist-attorney) in “It’s past time to update the rules intended to slow the FDA’s revolving door” in Stat News. The agency’s post-employment rules need to change, they say … and they have a plan.
