Politico puts compounding in focus
APC’s Scott Brunner was featured in POLITICO’s Prescription Pulse and Politico Pro newsletters this week discussing customized versions of GLP-1 drugs, how it's gone since the FDA declared the shortages over, ‘competition’ with drugmakers, and the murky road that further regulation might find itself walking down.
While drugmakers and their sockpuppet groups continue their attempt to weaponize fear and misinformation to protect market share, we think Scott clearly articulated the reality of the situation:
“Compounding pharmacies have stepped up and provided millions of patients access to what is undeniably a wonder drug at a time when the drugmakers could not meet the demand, and at a price point that the patient could afford, and with a track record of safety that is not out of sync with what we're seeing with the FDA-approved drug,” Brunner told POLITICO.
And that's the critical point right there: Compounding pharmacies have prioritized patient needs.
