Just say no to API tariffs

The specifics of the Trump administration’s trade war are changing day to day, and now the Commerce Department is trying to get a handle on how tariffs could affect specific industries, including pharmacy. It’s asking stakeholders to submit comments on what the implications of tariffs will (or could) be.

APC has submitted comments to the department explaining how “Tariffs on APIs will increase costs for domestic compounding pharmacies” and that can mean higher prices for patients. We also pointed out that…

According to a recent U.S. Pharmacopeia report, 85% of APIs used in prescription medicines come from foreign sources. Many of these APIs cannot be sourced domestically and imposing tariffs or other restrictive measures on pharmaceutical imports could inadvertently disrupt the supply of critical medications and undermine the capacity of compounding pharmacies to meet patient needs.
