Give a hand: Our advocacy needs your data
This past fall, APC launched an initiative with a team out of Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health to gather dispensing data from at least 100 compounding pharmacies. The data — aggregated and stripped of any personal detail — will form the basis of a robust collection of real-world information we can use to inform policymakers who may not be getting an accurate picture of the compounding landscape.
That’s the key. On the off-chance you haven’t heard, pharmacy compounding faces a never-ending barrage of threats from Congress, from state legislatures, and from drugmakers (and their litigation-happy lawyers). Defending compounding requires credible data, and this is how we do it.
Since we started, more than 50 pharmacies have signed up. That means we need 50 more to reach our goal.
Please be one of them.
It’s about collecting and reporting real-world, de-identified data about what’s happening in your compounding pharmacy — what you’re dispensing, where, and in what forms.
Why?
- We would rather act first — collect and share that data ourselves than have a mandated FDA reporting requirement.
- We could give Congress and regulators real, contextualized numbers, not anecdotes.
- Having facts at our fingertips makes it easier to influence legislation and regulation — we can show how compounding fills critical gaps, especially in times of shortage.
- And of course we’ll elevate and protect the profession by leading with transparency and credibility.
In short: Better us collecting data on our terms than an unnecessary FDA mandate. Let’s not wait for that. Let’s lead.
Please take a few minutes to download and fill out the introduction page and data-sharing agreement (PDF). Then, just twice a year, you'll send a basic spreadsheet with your dispensing data for the past six months. You’ll be integral in building the knowledge base that will safeguard our profession for the long haul.
This is the moment. We’re asking you to be part of it.
