APC to BOPs: Don’t fall for it
We’re more than tired of having to correct all the misinformation being spread by drug companies — to patients, to the media, to regulators. More recently, and more annoyingly, they’re now making presentations to state boards of pharmacy that echo that same misinformation.
So this week we sent a pretty major memo to the members of the boards of pharmacy of every state, calling out just about every bit of nonsense being spewed by … well, you know who.
It’s not that the board can’t see through the misinformation. We just wanted to provide them chapter and verse so they wouldn’t have to rely on memory to realize how the GLP-1 makers were trying to hoodwink them. (We also wanted to show just how far the drugmakers are going in order to sow confusion.)
“Accurate information is essential for maintaining uniform regulatory standards and protecting public health,” we wrote. And throwing a bit of passive shade, we concluded, “We respectfully encourage boards to evaluate manufacturer presentations with the same evidentiary standards applied to all stakeholders.”
