APC briefs House health staffers

APC held a briefing on the Hill for congressional staffers on Tuesday, August 26 where we got a great turnout, especially for the middle of a recess: About 25 staffers from representatives across the country showed up to get an update on the compounding landscape.

First, though, APC CEO Scott Brunner gave them an important primer: He explained the difference between 503A traditional compounding pharmacies and 503B outsourcing facilities, the rigorous regulatory framework around compounding, and the truth around API quality and adverse events reporting. You know, in case these folks were getting their information from … less trustworthy sources.

After the intro, Scott Welch from Preston’s Pharmacy in Arlington, VA, gave them a front-line look at GLP-1 compounding — what it was like during the height of the shortage and what he’s seeing now. Again, this was about providing an important perspective outside the usual news bytes and pharma press releases.

The meat of the presentation came from APC Chief Advocacy Officer Tenille Davis who explained our Blueprint for patient access to essential meds — what we’re asking for, why it’s important, and how it fits with the current ‘regulation reduction’ landscape. Then Amy Shank from PCCA gave a little teaser for the drug-shortage and patient access compounding bill we’re hoping to introduce before Compounders on Capitol Hill.
