The deets on those real solutions …

This week, APC’s Policy Development Work Group met to decide on the policy issues the alliance should focus on in the coming year. After weighing long lists of pros and cons, the work group recommended that APC adopt four new proposals. Each offers a solution to a challenge faced by patients — and by the compounding profession.

These aren’t blinders. The compounding landscape is always changing, and of course APC will be quick to respond to important developments if and when they arise. But the core of our policy work for 2027 will be these four policy-based solutions:

1. Model legislation to put med spas and other unlicensed entities within the enforcement reach of boards of pharmacy
2. Mandatory labeling that compounded drugs are not FDA-approved
3. A formal definition of “clinically significant difference” and required prescriber substantiation when determining whether a compounded drug is appropriate for a patient
4. Prohibiting direct-to-consumer marketing of substances that don’t meet legal requirements, e.g., research-grade API
