Peptide plan reportedly in the works
When it comes to peptides, the conversation in Washington keeps returning to one word. Guardrails.
The Washington Post reported on October 8 that the Trump administration is crafting plans to allow the temporary sale of certain previously restricted peptides while new regulations are written. The story relies on two anonymous sources familiar with the matter, and it’s important to keep that in perspective. The plan has not been announced, there is no announced timeline, and the details could still change.
As noted in that story, APC has stressed the importance of peptide guardrails to FDA. We have met with the agency twice to urge interim enforcement discretion for state-licensed compounding pharmacies, paired with specific conditions. Those include enhanced disclosures to patients, serious adverse event reporting, and data collection on peptide use.
The WaPo story simply affirms rumors we’ve been hearing that action on peptides is imminent. Stay tuned.
