The Iowa Board of Pharmacy has introduced a new reporting requirement: Compounders who dispense outside the state must “report compounding data to the NABP information sharing network.”
To be fair, that doesn’t sound like a huge deal. Annoying, but not necessarily an undue burden. Until, that is, we contacted NABP. We learned that the information sharing network is not fully functional; pharmacists couldn’t upload interstate compounding data if they wanted to. Add to that the fact that the regulation doesn’t specify which data need to be uploaded.
All that in mind, we wrote to the Iowa board (PDF) respectfully asking that it remove this new requirement at least until the kinks — logistical and instructional — have been ironed out.
