Can we be more clear? The so-called SAFE Drugs Act (S.3794), if enacted, would gut short-drug compounding. Among other things, it would impose an arbitrary 20-copies-per-month cap on 503A pharmacies compounding any medication even when the manufactured drugs are on the FDA’s shortage list.
Imagine being the parent of the 21st patient during, say, another pediatric amoxicillin shortage. It’s not hypothetical. Thanks to a disinformation campaign from drug manufacturers, the bill is gaining traction among senators who believe (incorrectly) that it would protect patients from fraudulent medications, when in fact it does nothing about the fake or illicit ‘drugs’ being sold outside the regulated pharmacy system.
The SAFE Drugs Act has already moved to the mark-up stage in Senate committee, so yes, it’s progressing. We need to stop it. Patients are counting on us. We need you to contact your senator NOW, especially if you’re in a state with a senator on the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, where the bill will be heard next:
We made it easy to send a message. Our advocacy tool will not only automatically send your message to your members of Congress, we’ve even got a sample message you can use or edit.
Even better, have your patients send a message to protect their access to with this link: https://fllw.me/stop3794.
We know your time and your patients’ time is valuable, so, like we said, easy.
