Short Takes: July 24, 2026

Our favorite peptide podcast. The good folks at National Public Radio are the latest to tackle the question, “Does the science of peptides live up to the hype?” — in this case in their Short Wave podcast. (To be fair, though, the bulk of the episode is about the PCAC meeting and what could come out of that, including input from APC, of course.) FDA tweaks PCAC. After some criticism that the FDA’s Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee (PCAC) had a few too many members with ties to businesses that promote peptide therapies, the agency has added eight new temporary members to the now 43–member committee, including (per Bloomberg Law) “clinical researchers, professors of medicine, and pain and substance use experts.”

PFMs: If you want your folks to vote, update your roster. APC board elections are coming up quick, and only employees on your PFM roster as of August 31 are eligible to vote. So please take a couple of minutes to update your roster before then.

Latest ketamine stats. File this under “Well that’s interesting”: The folks at the National Drug Early Warning System looked at the growing popularity of ketamine, including reported overdoses (via EMS records), how much it’s being talked about on Reddit (what with it being “widely discussed [...] in both recreational and therapeutic contexts”), and the host of issues that are riding the coattails of its popularity.

Novo sues Lilly. Novo Nordisk is suing Eli Lilly, claiming that Lilly’s ad campaigns for its GLP-1 drugs — which say that Lilly’s drugs are more effective — are using outdated studies, and it wants Lilly to stop the ads and “issue corrective advertising.”
