California

The hearing on California AB 1990 — a bill that would restrict pharmacy compounding under the banner of “safety” — has been bumped a week later than originally scheduled and will now be heard in the Assembly Business & Professions Committee on April 14.

California AB 2141 will still be heard by the committee on April 7. Unlike AB 1990, AB 2141 would actually resolve a real, practical issue by providing a more streamlined, efficient way for the California Board of Pharmacy to resolve certain enforcement cases while still maintaining full oversight. APC is working with our California lobbyist on a plan for providing testimony during the hearing.

Colorado

“Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow” seems to be the petty pace in Colorado right now. For the past couple of weeks, SB 26-066 has been added to the daily calendar for a third reading and a vote in the full Senate, only to then be laid over until the following day. Once we’re no longer in a Groundhog Day situation with this bill, we’ll provide another update.

In the meantime, the more pressure your Colorado patients and prescribers can put on their state senators, the better. Ask them to take 30 seconds to send an email telling their senator to oppose SB 26-066.

Pennsylvania

While we still haven’t seen an official bill drop in Pennsylvania, we know one is coming soon from Rep. Justin Fleming. We also know, based on the memo released by his office and his op-ed, that it will be just as messy and misguided as all of the other drugmaker bills we’ve seen so far this year. We’re monitoring the state closely, and we’re prepped to start fighting back as soon as the bill is introduced.
